Ocean Week is the annual conference hosted by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) Oceans, one of NTNU’s four strategic research areas. This year’s edition was held from 2 to 4 May 2023 across three different cities in Norway, Trondheim, Gjøvik and Ålesund.
The conference is vital to NTNU’s effort to contribute to Norway’s role as an ocean nation. Ocean Week’s primary purpose is to lay the foundations for ground-breaking interdisciplinary ocean research and collaboration across sectors to solve the sustainability challenges of the Oceans.
Odd Erik Mørkrid, one of ReNEW’s partners from SINTEF Ocean, spoke in Parallel Session 2 on 2 May. The session was about the perspectives and updates on research and innovation in the field of autonomous sea transport. Odd Erik Mørkrid presented several ongoing innovation projects dealing with autonomous shipping, with a focus on ReNEW. The participants had the opportunity to learn about the critical enablers for successfully developing and introducing autonomous ship solutions, such as safety assurance and infrastructures for research and innovation.
If you could not attend the conference, you still have the possibility to learn more about the topic through Odd Erik Mørkrid’s presentation here.
