Work Package 1 - Methodology for EU Resilient and Sustainable IWT Infrastructure System

The key objective of this deliverable is to create a hazards and vulnerabilities scenarios catalogue, to give an overview of resilience and sustainability Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA), and to identify building blocks and data sources serving as baselines for the development of new solutions. Considering that this is the first version of the deliverable (there are three versions in total), and the information has the status of the 1st release, this is a dynamic document where the information will be further analysed and concretized.

Main authors: Marija Jović and Wiebke Duhme, ISL

A comprehensive hazards and vulnerability scenario catalogue was already developed in the previous version of this deliverable D1.1 Resilience and Sustainability analysis in IWT. In this document, this catalogue was used as the basis for a refined analysis of the hazards and threats regarding vulnerabilities and potential consequences, including additional risk analyses for relevant events. This was done based on literature research and surveys of Living Labs (LL).

This deliverable provides an overview of Task 1.2 on the development of the Ontology and Knowledge Graph (KG) for the ReNEW project. The primary goal of the task is to build systems and services around the Knowledge Graphs to utilise the results using AI & ML with iterative testing and selection of methods. This will facilitate the analysis of risks and cascading effects, evaluation of resilience, and optimisation of costs and efficiency.  One of the key elements of the project is the incorporation of Probabilistic Digital Twins via Bayesian Networks, which offer substantial benefits in forecasting the system reactions to predicted and unexpected occurrences. This document will further elaborate on the intricate details of Bayesian Networks and their application in diagnosis, reasoning, causal modelling, decision making under uncertainty, anomaly detection, automated insight, and prediction. The document will also provide a theoretical example of risk modelling using Bayesian Networks.

This document summarizes the impacts of common IWT infrastructures on the environment in the light of EU Directives by linking IWT measures and actions and their potential impact on waterbodies according to the “Guidance on IWT and Natura 2000 Sustainable inland waterway development and management. The deliverable sets a baseline for the evaluation of all actions and interventions proposed within the ReNEW project in the light of the EU environmental directives, with a specific but not exclusive focus on (i) Water Framework, (ii) Floods, (iii) Habitats, (iv) Birds, (v) Ambient Air Quality and (vi) Environmental Noise Directives. Moreover, we propose a set of ecosystem services to link with physical, chemical, and ecological processes to connect with IWT measures, and finally, we suggest a set of indicators that can be used in the following steps of the project to quantify the effects on ecosystem services.

This deliverable is a continuation of the deliverables already produced in other sub-tasks and WP. The Task 1.4 of the ReNEW project refers to the methodology specification for resilience and sustainability. It aims to develop a generic methodology to analyse, assess and prioritize the living labs initiatives for sustainability and resilience enhancements on both Infrastructures and transportation resources against the extreme events related to climate changes.

According to the GA, it regroups 3 subtasks:
– ST1.4.1 Common methodology for use case description, Resilience and Sustainability indicators definition.
– ST1.4.2 Mapping Resilience and Sustainability indicators.
– ST1.4.3 Methodology for the evaluation of performance indicators.

This deliverable looks at each part going from use case description until the proposed framework for resilient and sustainable IWT system.

This report summarizes the efforts to develop a Green Resilient Inland Water Transport (GRIWT) Dataspace and a library of tools that facilitate DT Service and Application development, aiming to support the sustainability and resilience of inland water transport (IWT). In this respect, the complexity of data dynamics within the IWT ecosystem is explored, identifying and integrating pivotal data sources such as environmental sensors and geographic systems. These components form the foundation of the digital twin data pipeline, enabling a deeper understanding and interaction with the IWT environment.

This deliverable contains the first version description of the Green Resilient IWT Digital Twin Generic application, with its primary focus being the identification and description of models and tools that will compose the Digital Twin. The document also presents a methodology for capturing Living Labs’ needs and aligning them with practical Digital Twin use cases. As a proof of concept, it outlines potential applications of these models within each Living Lab. Ongoing model evolution, potential new additions, and refinements are expected as they integrate data and user/stakeholder feedback in the coming months. This deliverable serves as a comprehensive record of these crucial advancements.

The main objective of ReNEW is to identify ways to balance IWT’s research towards a more resilient sustainable sector. Joint resilience and sustainability indicators will be defined to provide a framework that facilitates the resilience and sustainability quantification and assessment. In the meantime uses cases are identified and classified that will be transposed into functionalities which will help us to design the digital twin. This document is part of this process of selecting and explaining the procedures put in place to arrive at reliable indicators and processes to ensure the main expected achievements in terms of resilience and sustainability.

This document describes the methodology used, the requirements definition, the architecture of thecdigital twin platform and the deployment method. Requirements for the digital matching platform have been listed for the ReNEW project. Several types have been identified, for example those relating to the Living Labs, digital twin applications, data spaces, and functional and non-functional. They have been collected from inputs provided by our partners in WP1 and WP3. This involves capturing the requirements expressed by the living labs through use cases and technical requirements from the perspective of digital twin and data spaces.

Work Package 4 - ReNEW Living Labs

The purpose of this deliverable was to produce the overall Living Labs implementation plan, and to provide an overview of the Living Labs and what objectives each one aims to attain. A brief, introductory part is dedicated to the description of each Living Lab and the challenges to be addressed. Next, the existing physical and digital infrastructure is discussed, along with the available and on-demand data. Afterwards, and for each Living Lab, the role of the involved partners and the way of their contribution was defined, however keeping in mind the early stage of the project, as this is the first deliverable in the series of T4.1 deliverables, and the ReNEW approach is fully agile, allowing the continuous evolution of the delivered Living Labs functionalities through the innovations implemented in WP1, WP2 and WP3.
